MayHAM Mayhem :: Hulk + Tripp Syndicate + Trowa – 05.27.11

Space Age Pimpin’ in association with SlantEd Sounds and Nasty Rumor proudly presents:

MayHAM Mayhem: An Exploration in Dubstep

With artists:

HULK
Featuring Claw and Richie August
Saratoga Springs, NY || Chicago, IL
Brotown || Play Me || Potty Mouth || Simplify Agency

www.soundcloud.com/hulk

Hulk is a collaboration of Claw & Richie August, two creative minds that share a similar production style and enthusiasm for heavy bass driven music. After meeting at the 2009 Winter Music Conference in Miami, they began to send files back and forth to collaborate on projects in Dubstep, Hip Hop and Electro. Since the inception, Hulk has been catching the eyes and ears of artists such as Reid Speed, Reso, Mark Instinct, Ultrablack, TrillBass, High Rankin and DJ Lord of Public Enemy, among others
2010 saw Hulkís first official release, dropping on Reid Speedís Play Me Records as a Beatport Exclusive. Forthcoming releases on Foulplay, Shift, and Play Me Records are already creating a buzz around the duo. Whatís more, the recent launch of their own record label, BroTown Records has the scene begging for the slated releases to drop, featuring tunes by Vaski, Druley, Mark Instinct, Symbl, as well as tunes by Claw, Richie August, and Hulk themselves.
Whether in the studio or on the stage, get ready for the biggest bass in the game, as Hulk is here to SMASH!

Tripp Syndicate (1st Time STL Appearance!)
Chicago, IL
Featuring Nameloc + Ruckus + Mc Anti
Betamorph || Brotown

http://www.facebook.com/TrippSyndicate
http://twitter.com/trippsyndicate

Overlooking Tripp Street in Chicago, Illinois is a room. Filled with
subwoofers and computer screens, it was here that Tripp Syndicate
first came to be. Nameloc, The Producer, Ruckus, The DJ, Anti, The MC,
united to form a single unit. The unit’s purpose? Complete dance floor
meltdown. With a combined 30 years in the game Tripp Syndicate has all
of the training needed to accomplish it’s mission. These three shadowy
figures bring a true spectacle to whatever venue they play. True four
turntable sets, punctuated by the tectonic growl of an MC referred to
often as “Chicago’s Madman”.

Nameloc’s crisp production stands out whenever he drops one of his
tracks, and his machinelike timing makes him the permanent focal point
of Tripp’s Sets. Ruckus’ psychedelic delivery and hip hop style
turntablism puts the bounce in your step, his lightning fast dips into
roaring baselines provides a touch of madness to the night.

Tripp in its short time together has already opened for some of the
titans of the industry, such as: 6 Blocc aka R.A.W, HULK, Symbl,
Trowa, Pendulum, VibeSquaD and Vaski. The list while potent does not
eclipse Tripp’s Success at headlining its own sold out shows. It did
however attract the patronage of Chicago label Bro Town Records and
Florida based Betamorph Records. Together Tripp Syndicate delivers a
powerful, energetic show, blown at crowds at a frenetic pace. Do not
miss these bass junkies as they deliver high doses of dub to dance
floors in your town

Trowa

Featuring Metaphase + Philthy B

Play Me Records / Illeven:Eleven / West Bay Music || Los Angeles, CA

One of the most promising new artists in 2011 are Trowa. A duo of historical proportions, Trowa (Metaphase & Philthy B.) are making waves with their remixes of Cassius, Keith MacKenzie and originals on Reid Speed’s Play Me Records. No strangers to the scene both of these cats have been cranking out sonic bliss for a minute now. Through their manipulation of sound waves, TROWA takes form through many styles, channeling high-energy music that elevates listeners beyond the construct of society’s dubious ways.

Their first EP of original work titled Bollywood Bandit, is available through Play Me Records and in February you’ll be able to grab one of their remixes on Armanni Reigns’ Off The Grid EP, forthcoming on Atlantic Connections’ Westbay Music Group.

Opening Sets:

Mohawk vs. HeezY aka M v H
Nasty Rumor || Drop Dirty || Loyal Family || Electrolouis.com

Mohawk vs. Heezy is a DJ tag-team from St. Louis dedicated to playing the very heaviest dubstep, glitch-hop and electronic bass music. This duo pits Heezy — STL’s busiest dubstep promoter and a renowned expert in reggae dubstep — against the cutting-edge producer and digital guru known as The Mohawk. The result is some serious wreckage, as they one-up each other with deep wobbles and crazy effects to create a brutal sonic experience. This high-energy sound got them nominated for the 2010 Riverfront Times Music Awards and opening slots for Lazer Sword, Mimosa, Bombaman, Hulk and more. You can check them out every Monday night with “The Wrek Sessions” on Electrolouis.com internet radio, but the full experience needs to be felt in person — M v H defines heavy. You’ve been warned!

GEIN (Abel)
Atlanta, GA / Milwaukee, WI
Bad Chemistry // Moving Shadow // Habit // Counterstrike // Tech Itch // Human Imprint

“Man will begin to recover the moment he takes art as serious as physics, chemistry, or money”

With a mindset of D.I.Y. and a vision of the future, drum and bass producers GEIN have unleashed their new record label BAD CHEMISTRY RECORDINGS on the world’s ears. And with five years of production credit, as well as 5 years of record label management with HABIT RECORDINGS, the trio is set to stir up the drum and bass scene with a conceptual label that defies people’s set standards. With Bad Chemistry, GEIN is turning heads all across the board with collaborations you would come to expect, never expect, as well as new solo material that breaks stereotypes. And with support from major players in the drum and bass world, the hype is growing daily. With the first release, GEIN brought us “Bad Chemistry” produced by GEIN, backed with “Fear” with additional production by newcomers Biolysis. And this was just the beginning. With forthcoming collaborations with Tech Itch & Jakes, The Chosen, Audio, Mayhem, The Sect, SPKTRM, Counterstrike, Cooh, as well as solo tracks from GEIN, SPKTRM, Demo & Ewun, and more. With the hype surrounding the label, interest in GEIN productions came from DJ DIESELBOY, who quickly grabbed two monster collaboration tracks from GEIN, “Ghetto Dope” featuring Mayhem & “6 Feet Deep” featuring Killer and Breaker, for his drum and bass label HUMAN IMPRINT.

Bad Chemistry Recordings is ready to prove to the world that not all things can be explained… bad chemistry is good chemistry.

Bassdrive // SLI

Squake is a San Diego native, and has been Djing since 2003. Squake was introduced to Drum & Bass while attending some of the legendary Respect nights and Massives while living in Southern Cal. His love for early Drum & Bass eventually brought him to the decks. While honing his skills living in CA, Squake emerged on to the scene when he moved to Nashville, TN in 2005. Squake immediately landed residencies at The Red Iguana, Spy Bar, Lot 7, and Club Mai, while also rinsing out countless local parties.

Summer 2010, Squake became part of the Sine Language Imprint. While Squake spends most of his time doing AR and Design, he has been busy in the studio working on his Debut EP. Still a rookie in the sequencer, Squake’s tunes have already appeared on Electronic Warfare with host The Overfiend, The Greenroom with host Stunna, and have been getting rinsed in clubs all over the south.

HELLFIRE MACHINA (Both Members) – New York

Prior to the birth of this project in late 2008. Jody Shires and Tom Williams collectively had over 60 releases under their belts, along with production work for grammy nominated artists, numerous UK top ten remixes, 5 Breakspoll Awards, Best International Dj in the Spanish EDM awards 3 years running and a history in bass culture that is second to none. The year is now 2010, sonic exploration in the realm of bass fueled riddims is the primary mission for Hellfire Machina. With residencies at New York’s legendary Club Love, Darkroom in Brooklyn and Psychadelic Radio in SF, it’s no wonder these guys are in high demand.

Their weekly radio show on dubstepfm has gone from strength to strength and has helped push the awareness of bass music across the globe as well as providing a platform to hear the latest Hellfire creations first, often in early stages as they are delevoped in their now famously named studio Planet Twisted. Ending last year with A and R and project management credits for the Wu Tang ‘Enter The Dubstep’ album and a string of singles and remixes, they have hit the ground running in 2010. A fresh batch of releases due to hit the streets imminently, a new label project with techno legend Lenny Dee in the works as well as the next chapter in the infamous BASS FUELED MISCHIEF parties in their homebase of NYC.

They also just finished the Brand Nubian “Enter The Dubstep Vol.2 album set for a late December release date. With a furious touring schedule and all these releases. This is the age of the machine with Hellfire firmly at the controls…
_____

METAPHASE – Los Angeles

Metaphase (Frankie Bernstein) has blazed a bright trail through 2010, and will only continue to bring world-class, high energy bass music into the future. With music released on over 7 labels and spanning 8 genres, Metaphase can engage and destroy a dance-floor at any tempo. Having released music since 2004 Frankie Metaphase has an impressive discography that counts over 15 releases, in both Vinyl and Digital formats.

Recently, Metaphase has seen great success on the Beatport charts with his ‘Inevitable’ remix released on Betamorph. His tracks have seen \support from the likes of Reid Speed, N-Type, Benny Page, and Babylon System to name a few. As a producer, Metaphase never rests. He is 1/2 of the group Trowa, recently signed to heavy-hitting labels Play Me, and West Bay Music. Currently collaborations are brewing with Smog producers DLX and Pawn, as well as remixes forthcoming on Section 8, and Betamorph in 2011.

Having 10 years of DJ’ing under his belt, holding a residency with Pure Filth LA, and headlining in over 10 Major U.S. cities, a crowded dance-floor is never the same after Metaphase is done with it!

After headlining at Space Age Pimpin’ and Blindfire’s “ALL UP IN IT” show at STL’s The Complex, be sure for another smasher!
_____

BOKATOR (1st STL Appearance) – Austin

Ripping through your speakers and rattling your chest, Bokator comes at you like a ton of bricks. From the “Live Music Capital of the World”, Austin Texas, he spends his days and nights studying the ins and outs of bass, conquering it from every possible angle, and putting his own unique, ear bleeding twist on it.

With releases on 5 Hz Records, and the well respected Stupid Fly Records, and releases forthcoming has a plethora of labels including: Betamorph, Double Drop, Plush, & Dub Cartel & many more… this artist is not one to be overlooked.

Bokator has played with the likes of Excision & Borgore, has a UK tour planned for next May, along with his upcoming birthday bash of his own in late january with Mark Instinct, who is the one that turned FurtherSound onto this 21 year old badman last year.

Teaming up with the FurtherSound family, it would be wise to keep an ear open for the filthy fresh sounds of Bokator.
_____

RUCKUS – Chicago

Huge summer festivals? Check. Massive sold out shows? Check. Faces melted across the USA Check. Being one of Chicago biggest Dubslingers for years now? Check. Ruckus AKA Charlie Bro has been a busy man in 2010. As many of you may know, Ruckus started as a drum and bass DJ.
In early 2008 the pulsating sounds of dubstep grabbed ahold of him the same way it did so many of us and it’s been no turning back since. Not only has he been tearing up the Dj circuit with his ridiculous DJ skills, 2010 has also allowed for ventures into the business side of bass music.

Ruckus holds down the A&R duties of 2 major North America dubstep labels: Betamorph’s drumstep venture and all aspects of FurtherSound. High lights so far include Ruckus destroying the Red Bull stage at the inaugural North Coast Music Fest in front of thousands of screaming bass heads and playing the first ever sold out Booty Halloween along side DJ Dara and Eskmo. In 2010 he has also shared the stage with a “who’s who” list of global talent including Daedlus, The Gaslamp Killer, 12th Planet, Joe Nice, Rastatronics, Ginz, Metaphase, HULK, Mark Instinct, Claw, Nameloc, Richie August, Dara, Borgore, Bombaman, Eliot Lipp and Midnight Conspiracy.

Ruckus is also involved in the founding of a new super ground of Chicago talent called Tripp Syndicate. Tripp Syndicate features the roaring bass of Nameloc, the terrifying mic ripping of MC Anti and the diabolical DJ skills of Ruckus ripping on 4 decks. What’s next for this multitalented man you ask? Be on the look out for more insane events with an ever growing crowd of fans. As a new generation of bass monsters arises and comes to dominace Ruckus will be right there at the top, maintaining a professional approach while still partying with the best of them. With all these things already accomplished in 2010 the bar has been set pretty high for 2011 – but don’t worry, Ruckus won’t let you down.
_____

BANDIIT of Wolf Pack – 1st STL Appearance – Chicago

Bandiit is the creation of two Wolf Pack co-founders, Chris Hemstreet and Sean McCarthy or WSK and The Car Thief. These two have been banging out beats and raging for the best of them. Playing along side some of dubsteps heavyweights, Antiserum, Nero, SPL, DZ and many more. These two will be brining some heavy tunes sure to be filthier than your wildest dreams. Watch out for, Bandiit

SECOND ROOM ELECTRO + DRUM & BASS

DJ’s

NOAH (Electro) – St. Louis

NOAH has been pushing electro, in the underground and above, since before there was a section devoted to it in Mixmag, fle sharing, or the blogosphere. As an OZ Nightclub VIP resident from 2005-2008 he introduced St. Louis electronic music fans to many of the artists that have since shaped the electro house genre that so many of us love today.

His opening sets for St. Louis legend Gary Mac have provided the appetizer to some of the most delicious nights the St. Louis after-hours scene has lived through. He closed the HARD HAUNTED MANSION after party in Los Angeles in 2008 and the following year played two sets at Miami’s Winter Music Conference as well as shows in Chicago, Dallas, San Antonio, Memphis, Detroit, and many more in his home city of St. Louis.

The tracks he drops live, and at the marathon after-hour sets he’s become known for are big, flthy, crunchy, glitchy tunes that mix songs you love with electro smashers that are as fun to sweat to on the dance foor as they are to shake to at the house party you’ve wound up in the middle of at 5AM.
_____

TWO TONE & BRANDON S (Drum & Bass) – St. Louis / Chicago

First D&B Tag Team Performance in 10 years!

Two Tone is a drum and bass, hip-hop, turntablism artist that really knows how to rock the spot! He has played all over the midwest, as well as the U.S, blowing speakers and crushing dancefloors with an interesting array of dirty basslines, aggresive lyrics, and sick scratch skills. Mix that cunning creativity and passion for the music with natural born style and you’ve got Two Tone.

Originally from Missouri, Two Tone grew up and eventually moved to Saint louis where he got more involved with the djing side of the scene as opposed to the dancing. After playing parties for promoters such as LEO PRODUCTIONS,SUPERSTARS OF LOVE, THAT GIRL, AND BAM, he was launched into my first residency at Club Cheetah where he started playing with larger names such as Nigel Richards, Frankie Bones, DRC and Heather Hart, which tightened up his skills with weekly events. It was soon after this that NMEZEE came on board and started playing hip-hop and doing turntablism, and after a couple of years the HERBAL ASSASSINS became official floor wreckers in the STL. Being backed by STREETSONIC PRODUCTIONS and VITAMIN E, they were playing every party to hit the city, coming with the fresh sounds time and time again. But as you all know life happens and they both moved away to different places and parted ways in 2004, and have started elsewhere. NMEZEE is now in Kansas City running a production company and is part owner of RIGGZ RECORDINGZ, and Two Tone is back in STL holdin’ it down.
_____

Brandon S., is the C.E.O., Talent Manager, Promotion Coordinator and Booking Agent for FurtherSound Artist Management. FurtherSound was originally started in mid-2000, by longtime friend from Chicago, DJ Ciro. In 2000, Brandon joined Ciro to push the sounds of the major D&B movement of the time.

Brandon has been spinning records since he was 16 years old, and was promoting and coordinating small to full scale raves by the time he was 17. His first major party, called “Seasons” in January of 1998 had well over 1500 people with the main room focusing on D&B, and the second being divided by mixed genres. You could find him selling his own mixtapes and CD’s at parties all over the Midwest. His first cassette entitled “DarkerSideOfBass”, circa 1999, sold over two thousand units in straight hand to hand sales. He has several other mixes, and even appeared on the now famous Chicago mixtape compilation, “The Jungle Book 3″.

This was the very start for this young, up and coming entrepreneur.

In the last 13 years, he has toured in Europe (2002), and has shared the decks, stages and venues with everyone from DJ’s and bands all across america. Andy C., Ed Rush & Optical, Grooverider, Stakka, Rahzel, Rusko, Reso, Little Dragon, Amon Tobin, Kid Koala and KJ Sawka is a small list of names that goes on and on. His background in music ranges from D&B, Electro, Funk, Soul, Industrial, New Wave, Dubstep, Hip Hop, Classics and more, making him one of the more versatile DJ’s in Chicago.

As a promoter, he has personally booked virtually every well known Chicago D&B DJ, as well as helping to bring first time appearances to Chicago such as the ViRam Tour in 2005, Keaton & Hive, Adam F, Rusko, Reso, Mark Instinct & RSK, just to name a few. He also brought the appearances of the amazing indie band from Sweden, Little Dragon, not only for their first Chicago appearance in July 2009, but also helped with a follow up show for the band in front of a maximum capacity crowd at the venue known as “Double Door” in November 2009 for the club’s official 15th year anniversary.

Brandon took FurtherSound to another platform in July of 2009, taking over full responsibility of the company, while making it a much broader platform for other DJ’s & Producers. FurtherSound is currently focusing on the roaring Dubstep movement that has taken place the last several years. Brandon and the company he now built does booking for it’s 20 impressive artists, while working with other promoters all over the world. He has signed every FurtherSound artist to the roster, boasting DJ’s and Producers from all over the United States. He also promotes and hosts FurtherSound events at Chicago’s Kinetic Playground, Double Door, Bottom Lounge, Subterranean & many more…

Brandon has just taken on role role as North American A&R for Dubsaw Recordings. With an already impressive crew of talent that includes Culprate, KOAN Sounds, Suspect, Switch Dubs, Barbarix, Rakoon, Xzist, Pkay, Funt Case, Flux Pavilion, Point.blank, Physical, Disonata, Brainpain, Wachs Lyrical, Gravity, Mr Boogie, Dismantle, Droid Sector, Brandon S & Neumann… Things are gonna be huge for 2011, after an already successful 2010. Brandon will be helping Pkay and Xzist in earmarking tracks for the emerging North American Dubstep artists that blend with the Dubsaw sound.

Turning 31 years young in January 2011, there seems to be no stopping this already accomplished individual. 2010 marked a new decade for all of us, and FurtherSound is already taking it to the next level. With FurtherSound reaching it’s 10 year anniversary this past July, be on the lookout for large shows, major talent signings and DJ tours all over the world for FurtherSound’s respective artists.
